For fifty years, metal has resisted all its changes. Decade after decade, he conquered new audiences and reinvented himself, drawing on both popular art and classical aesthetics.
The first exhibition dedicated to the genre in France, Metal, Diabolus in Musica takes over the walls of the Philharmonie de Paris from April to September 2024 and paints a documented picture of this movement, where music, popular culture, anthropological and artistic visions interact. Contrary to the caricatures to which metal is often reduced, the exhibition explores its codes and the richness of its myths.
An extension of the exhibition but also and above all a reference work on music with many facets, this richly illustrated and carefully crafted catalog (jasping, textured cover and metallic iron, 8-page leaflet) brings together the curators of the exhibition specialists and big names in the scene: Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Max Cavalera (Soulfly), Seth Anton (Septicflesh), Nergal (Behemoth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), the illustrator Eliran Kantor, the artists Élodie Lesourd and Chloé Trujillo and comic book artist Damien MacDonald; as well as the sociologists Deena Weinstein and Gérôme Guibert, the doctoral student in modern literature Sistine Audebert or the director of collections at the Hard Rock Café, Chase McCue.
Afterword by Mario Duplantier (Gojira).
