3 good reasons to go see Mamma Mia
There's no way you haven't heard of Mamma Mia! This 1999 musical comedy was made into a film in 2008 with famous actors such as Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth. In 2023, the musical is once again on stage with more than 30 actors at the Casino de Paris. So why go see this new adaptation? We give you 3 reasons to convince you to go and enjoy it!
1. For the story, sparkling and romantic
The story takes place on a heavenly Greek island, in a small village in which Sophie, a young woman and her mother live. Sophie is preparing for her upcoming wedding, but wants to invite her father, whom she does not know.
While digging through her mother's diary, she discovers three potential prospects who could be her father... She then decides to invite all three to her wedding, without warning her mother. They then arrive on the island a few days before her wedding, leaving Donna, her mother, panicked at managing this new situation and having to tell her daughter who her father is...
Who will lead Sophie to the altar to get married?
2. For the songs, each one more iconic than the other
The magic of Mamma Mia is partly thanks to the famous songs of the Swedish group ABBA which blend perfectly into the story. 22 of their biggest hits can be found on stage, including “Dancing Queen”, “Waterloo”, “Take a Chance on Me” . The timeless melodies and lyrics carry the audience throughout the show in a joyful and dynamic universe, letting the audience appreciate this magical moment.
The 2023 musical features a version of ABBA hits whose lyrics have been translated and allows audiences to easily sing along to “Dancing Queen” and other pop songs from the '70s group.
3. For the staging, dazzling
The sets of the musical at the Casino de Paris are incredible : a blue background reminiscent of the sea and the sunny Greek sky, small white houses with colorful doors surrounded by trees that evoke the Greek island. More than the sets, it's also the costumes that impress us: colors, glitter and everything is a reminder of 70s pop and the story of Mamma Mia.
In these sets and costumes which transport us, the actors evolve between dances and songs, from joy to nostalgia. These 31 actors transmit the dynamism of the musical and for a moment, offer us an enchanted parenthesis.
So, have we convinced you? The show can be seen at the Casino de Paris until April 2024 . Invite your friends, your family and go see one of the most beautiful shows of 2023 – 2024! And to keep a glittery memory, it's here. Sweatshirts, t-shirts, tote bags, but also the poster of the musical! 👉🏼 https://www.offstage.fr/collections/mamma-mia
